Branding on Wood

Endless opportunities exist on the Diamond 7 Bar, whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation.  Horseback riding, chasing cows, fishing, hiking, swimming, and kayaking are all options for those adventure seekers.  For those looking to relax a bit, we’ve got plenty of space and serenity to do that.  Sitting on the deck listening to the creek, or enjoying a relaxing dip in the hot tub will put your mind and body at ease.

Specialty Weeks

If you’re interested in a specific ranching activity, we do offer various specialty weeks.

Branding Week – In early to mid May each year, we brand our newborn calves as well as any newly purchased cattle.  This takes just part of a day, but you will learn how to sort cattle, brand, and vaccinate.  If you’ve ever had the inkling to try Rocky Mountain Oysters, this is your chance for fresh ones!

Hulett Rodeo – This two day rodeo is held the weekend of the first full week in June.  If you would like to try your hand at any of the rodeo events, we can do our best to get you ready for the event (our expertise does not cover all rodeo events)bull riding and saddle bronc are at your own risk!

4th of July – This is a great week to spend on the ranch and in the Black Hills.  The Black Hills Roundup Rodeo takes place in Belle Fourche all week, and finish it off watching the fireworks show at Devils Tower.

Sturgis Bike Rally – The rally is the first full week in August.  This is an event that everyone should see once in their lifetime!  We are located about an hour from Sturgis, but you will see hundreds of thousands of bikers on the roads by the ranch on their way to Hulett and Devils Tower.  This week we offer cabin rentals if you want to attend the rally or you can still enjoy a ranch vacation with us and take outings to see parts of the rally. (This week fills up fast, so contact us at least a year early if you’re interested).

Annual Roundup – The end of every summer, it’s time to ship out a thousand head of cattle.  We spend a week checking every nook and cranny of the ranch looking for strays and gathering every last one of them to send out.  We spend a lot of time on horseback and cover a lot of ground.  By the end of the week, the trucks line up and we say goodbye to a summer of hard work and lots of memories.

Riding

Our riding program is the focus of most vacations on the Ranch.  We offer great flexibility to cater to each of our guests interests.  Several trails are utilized on our trail riding program, including a 1 hour, 2 hour, half day and full day ride.  If it’s the actual cattle ranch work that intrigues you, we’ll have you participating in a cattle drive, fixing fence, doctoring and feeding animals and more.   Each ride is unique in its scenery, sounds and history that it holds.  We have 10,000 acres to explore and lifetimes of stories to be told.

Kids 6 and older are welcome on the trail rides, it’s up to the head wrangler if your child is interested in moving cattle.  Kids under 6 can learn to ride with a wrangler in the arena.  Helmets are provided for all of our riders.  If you wish to ride without a helmet we ask that you read and sign our release of liability form.
